Someday is Today is the sequel to Listen In. While Listen In sought to bring awareness to the unique challenges of the Black experience in the workplace, Someday is Today focuses on solutions to those challenges – solutions that benefit everyone, not just people of color. The story is set in today’s post pandemic era as the main characters finally resume in person gatherings following lockdown. Through compelling dialogue and storylines, important and often uncomfortable topics are explored, debated and challenged. Generational differences, race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expressions (SOGIE), microaggressions, white male accountability and allyship are among the many themes that emerge. While most of the characters are African-American, there are also white characters who – through encounters with the main characters and self-reflection – grow in their own understanding of DEI and their inherent power to be a catalyst for change.
The Foreword for Someday is Today is written by Terrence Floyd, brother of George Floyd. Since his brother’s killing by Minneapolis police in 2020, Terrence Floyd has served as a tireless community leader and advocate for racial and social justice.
Listen In is a groundbreaking novel infused with practical business insights. It follows the journeys of five African-American characters navigating their way through a mostly white corporate environment. Peppered throughout their stories are facts, research and data on diversity and inclusion.
When a curious CEO overhears their conversations, he embarks on a transformative journey to accelerate his company's progress on inclusion goals. The story delves into the essence of metrics, addressing issues like black hair stereotypes, the paradox of height disadvantage for Black males, and the impact of words in conversations. It highlights the vital connections of the hashtags #BlackLivesMatter, #BlackMoneyMatters, and #BlackTalentMatters. Readers learn strategies to initiate trust-building conversations, navigate organizational culture, plan sustainable careers, attract and retain minority talent, and transform workplace culture. In the Afterword, Howard J. Ross, a renowned diversity consultant, praises the authenticity of characters and the importance of initiating conversations about race in mixed racial groups.
